BMG has appointed Peter Stack as Executive Vice President Global Catalogue Recordings.

The move comes seven months after BMG acquired the company Stack founded, UK-born reissues and catalogue specialist Union Square Music.

Reporting to BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch and based in London, Stack will now be responsible for targeting further catalogue acquisitions and licences, as well as running the catalogue business across BMG’s international network.

Hartwig Masuch said, “Catalogue artists have not always been given the respect they deserve by the record business. That’s why it has always been a key strategic priority for BMG to develop a world-class catalogue operation bringing together our strengths in sync and licensing and all forms of physical and digital exploitation.

“Already we have built strong strategic positions in the rock and dance genres. With many prized recordings now reverting to artists, Peter will not only be a great ambassador for BMG, he will help us further build our service offering.”

“BMG’s ability to combine ambition and scale with a real respect for artists is unique.”

Peter Stack said, “BMG’s ability to combine ambition and scale with a real respect for artists is unique. Artists whose work has proven itself over time deserve a world-class service and we are determined to give it to them.”

Stack will now take on responsibility for catalogues including Sanctuary Records (Iron Maiden, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Motörhead), SPV (Helloween, U.F.O.), Mute Records (Nick Cave, Erasure, Goldfrapp, Moby), Skint/Loaded (Fatboy Slim), Avenue (Eric Burdon, Funkadelic, War), Dreyfus (Jean-Michel Jarre), Chrysalis/Echo (Climax Blues Band, Moloko, Tom Jones), and such renowned specialist labels as Trojan (ska and reggae), Transatlantic (folk), Strictly Rhythm (dance) and Noise (thrash and speed metal), as well as the recordings taken by the new BMG from the former Sony-BMG joint venture (Scorpions, Nena, Mecano, Kylie Minogue, Alison Moyet).

Peter Stack first rose to prominence in the catalogue business in the Nineties when he built and ran Music Collection International, which later became Demon Music Group following the sale of its parent company the VCI Group to Kingfisher.

In 1999 he launched Union Square Music which worked with artists including Madness, The Undertones, Procol Harum, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Nazareth and Slade.

Stack has previously served as an elected Independent Council Member on the BPI Council and has been a PPL Board Director since 2010.Music Business Worldwide
