Cosmos Music has acquired Scandinavian Songs – one of the leading independent music publishing companies in the Nordics.

Scandinavian Songs has a local roster of 22 active writer/producers with both domestic and international hits.

It also handles administration/represents a number of international publishers for the Nordics, including Imagem, Mute Songs, Global Talent and Budde Music.

It also administers Avicii and Ash Pournouri’s publishing company PRMD in the region.

The company is based in Stockholm, Sweden and the office premises also houses seven songwriting studios for writing sessions and collaborations.

Scandinavian Songs will retain its name and continue to operate as a standalone business under the Cosmos Music umbrella.

“The Nordic region has lacked a good sized, well-funded, fully independent local publisher. Scandinavian songs is perfectly positioned to fill that void.”

Former co-owner and long time publishing executive Hans Desmond will remain with the company (as Board Member and Senior Advisor), as will Creative Director Peo Nylén and Copyright Manager Christoffer Westerlund.

Cosmos Music will provide additional resources in A&R, synch/licensing, administration, business affairs and finance in order to build further on Scandinavian Songs position as the leading music publisher in the Nordic region.

“With the acquisition of Scandinavian Songs, we will now become as active in music publishing as we are on the recorded side,” commented Fredrik Ekander of Cosmos Music.

“The Nordic region has for quite a while lacked a good sized, strong, well-funded, pro-active and creatively driven and fully independent local publisher – and Scandinavian Songs is now perfectly positioned to fill that void.”

Besides a renewed focus on A&R and new signings, the aim is now also to expand the company’s sub-publishing operations and the representation of international catalogues for the Nordics.

Ekander, Desmond and Nylén will be at Midem in June to meet with both existing and potential new partners.Music Business Worldwide
