Carlin Music’s EU boss David Japp left the publisher after 37 years in late December – and the company hasn’t dragged its feet over replacing him.
Carlin’s UK-based general manager Peter Thomas (pictured), is stepping up to become Managing Director. He will run the organisation in the UK and Europe alongside finance director Terry Heard.
Music Week reports that Thomas will report to Caroline Bienstock, CEO and president of the Carlin Group based in New York.
“The Carlin Group of companies, and I personally, wish David well upon his retirement from Carlin,” said Bienstock.
“He has been with us for many years and we hope his future endeavours are successful. We will all miss him greatly. Nonetheless, we are preparing for a great 2015 at Carlin, and have high hopes and expectations for our future.”
Peter Thomas added: “It’s been my pleasure and privilege to work for Carlin and the Bienstock family for many years and it’s truly an honour to be taking on the role of MD working alongside Terry.
“We have an outstanding team of people here at Carlin who take enormous pride in looking after some of the greatest songwriters and songs ever written.
“Moving forward, we intend to build on Carlin’s traditional strengths in terms of copyright and catalogue administration and also look to evolve and improve the company so as to be fully equipped to face the challenges of music publishing in the digital age.”
Long-term Carlin writers have included Ray Davies, Aretha Franklin and Rush, whilst it is perhaps nest known for looking after compositions by Elvis Presley, including many No.1 hits.Music Business Worldwide
