No article will ever be accepted for publication by Music Business Worldwide without first being vetted for editorial merit. Sales pitches, ‘advertorial’… it doesn’t fly here. But when a commercial partner contributes a feature, we think it’s fair that you know they’ve advertised on MBW. That’s what this block is for. No big deal. Read on, friend.

Sony Music Entertainment has appointed Edgar Berger as President & CEO, International – making the exec responsible for all of Sony‘s operations and regional offices outside of the US.

Berger will be based in London and report directly to Doug Morris, Chief Executive Officer, Sony Music Entertainment.

Morris stated, “We are delighted to have Edgar heading up our International operations. He has a proven track record of success through his leadership of both the strategically important German market and the larger GSA region. We are excited that he will now apply his talents to breaking artists and driving strategic business initiatives and innovation in our territories around the world.”

Berger stated, “I’d like to thank Doug for this fantastic opportunity. Sony Music has a tremendous roster of artists worldwide. I look forward to working with our labels, and the teams in all the territories to develop great music, and further grow our business around the world.”

Most recently, Berger served as CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, GSA Region, overseeing the company’s operations in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Previously he was CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Germany, where he focused on breaking new artists, increasing market share and profitability in the region, and expanding into new businesses such as management and touring.

From 2000 until 2005, he held a series of executive roles at Bertelsmann AG, including Executive Vice President in charge of synergy management and corporate development.

From 1994 – 2000, he worked as a television reporter as well as a political correspondent for RTL Television in Bonn and Berlin. Berger started his professional career in 1992 at the consulting firm Roland Berger & Partners.Music Business Worldwide
