Downtown Music Publishing‘s new UK office has signed its first major deal: a worldwide publishing agreement with reggae and dancehall specialist Abood Music, the publishing arm of Jamdown Entertainment.

Abood Music counts over 7,000 songs in its catalogue from some of the biggest artists and producers in Jamaican popular music, including RDX (pictured), Bounty Hunter, Cordell ‘Scatta’ Burrell as well as works from Randy and Jermaine Jackson.

Its parent company, Jamdown, was founded by Othman Mukhlis, former manager of reggae legends Black Uhuru.

One of the leading catalogues in the Jamaican music community, Abood Music credits include Nina Sky’s BMI Award-winning “Move Ya Body” (#4 on Billboard Hot 100) and Pitbull’s debut release “Culo” — both of which sample of Cordell ‘Scatta’ Burrell’s “Coolie Dance” — as well as cuts on albums by Snoop Dogg, T.I., Lil’ Kim and Major Lazer.

“We feel privileged to be the first publisher to represent abood globally and for downtown to be othman’s new home.”

“We have real good momentum right now and some very exciting things in the pipeline,” says Othman Mukhlis

“I very much look forward to working with Downtown — we are a good match!”

“Othman has built up an impressive reputation and catalogue,” said Downtown Music Publishing’s UK MD Roberto Neri.

“We feel privileged to be the first publisher to represent Abood globally and for Downtown to be his new home.”

Downtown’s UK office was created after it acquired Eagle-I Music earlier this year.

In the past two years, Downtown has opened offices in London, Amsterdam, Nashville and Los Angeles.

Its roster includes the likes of John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Randy Newman, Mötley Crüe, Hans Zimmer and One Direction.Music Business Worldwide
