Former Sony Music UK boss Nick Gatfield has taken the wraps off his new venture, Twin Music Inc – an investment, strategy and services provider for early stage artists and music entrepreneurs.

Twin Music will offer seed/angel investment for both music creatives and emerging start-ups.

The London-based company says it will ‘assist in developing, managing and funding a delivery strategy and business platform with the aim of creating sustainable business models for both artists and entrepreneurs’.

In exchange, Twin Music will receive a minority equity participation in the businesses – in much the same way traditional angel investment incubates and supports start-up companies.

Twin Music has already made a number of investments in both artist vehicles and strategically relevant businesses. Further announcements will follow.

“To date there has been a void in early stage funding and incubation support for new artists and music start-ups.”

Nick Gatfield said: “To date there has been a void in early stage funding and incubation support for new artists and music start-ups.

“However, with the current level of disintermediation in the industry, there has rarely been a better time for artists and entrepreneurs to pursue their unique vision and forge their own career paths.

“Twin Music Inc hopes to fill this void and help find and develop those unique individuals who will define the next chapter of the music business.”

After starting his professional career as a member of Dexys Midnight Runners, Gatfield went on to head up labels in both the US and the UK including Polygram, Island Records, EMI and most recently, Sony Music UK.

He has worked with artists including Radiohead, Blur, Amy Winehouse, DeadMau5 and One Direction, and was awarded Major Label Executive of the Year at the Worldwide Radio Summit in 2013.Music Business Worldwide
