Universal Music Group has acquired Romania’s third biggest independent label, MediaPro Music (MPM), for an undisclosed fee.

According to local reports, MPM was established in 1997 and became part of media group Central European Media Enterprises (CME) in 2009.

MPM represents artists from various musical genres, including names such as Loredana, Holograf, Andra, Vunk, Banica, Sore, Alina Eremia, Cargo, Angela Gheorghiu, Nicole Cherry (pictured), Lora and Ami.

Under Universal, MediaPro Music will continue to be led by Dana Adam, General Manager, who will report directly to Iona Fesnic, MD of Universal Music Romania.

“We are excited about the acquisition and we welcome MPM artists and employees to the Universal Music family,” said Fesnic.

“This is one of the most important steps in the development of our company since its establishment in 2006.
