Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed a joint venture agreement with artist manager Adam Alpert to launch a music publishing company.

Selector Songs will have a specific focus on pop and EDM talent. It will run alongside Alpert’s artist management company Disruptor Management and sister label Disruptor Records, whose releases are distributed by Sony Music.

The launch of Selector Songs extends Alpert’s relationship with Sony/ATV as it agreed a publishing deal earlier this year with social media phenomenon The Chainsmokers whom he manages.

The duo’s track, Selfie, has been one of the global hits of the year and hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart as well as making the Hot Digital Songs Top 10. It has to date sold around 900,000 downloads in the States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and in the UK it peaked at No. 11 on the Official Singles Chart.

Martin Bandier, Chairman and CEO, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said: “Adam Alpert is a clued-up young businessman who has demonstrated with The Chainsmokers that he can turn his extensive knowledge of the dance music world into real commercial success. We at Sony/ATV are excited to now be partnering with him in this new venture and look forward to enjoying more hits together.”

Adam Alpert said: “Selector Songs will be both a home for the most exciting and established producers, songwriters, and musicians as well as an incubator for the burgeoning talent of the future. Rounding out the one-stop shop of Disruptor Management and Disruptor Records, Selector Songs will focus on long-term artist development and modern recipes for success.”

Alpert initially managed DJs as a founding partner of New York City-based DJ/producer management company 4AM, which was launched in 2009, providing music for events around the world.

His background is in hospitality, nightclubs and events and prior to launching 4AM spent eight years as Director of Marketing and Promotions for Butter Group, a premier US hospitality company. He started his career running and promoting nightclubs and events.Music Business Worldwide
